2017 Mustang as a fun / track car

Hi,
I have been looking at replacement cars for a while and the Mustang keeps coming up as my best overall option.
I currently have a Land Cruiser Prado for family duties and my old stripped out Civic Type R for fun and a track day or two every now and then. I will be keeping the LC for may years yet as have 6 kids between me and my wife, so would be looking at replacing the Civic if anything. Love this car and had it for 5 years and made many changes to the car over the time (ITB's, LSD, brakes, exhaust etc etc). But as im getting older (not that old, only 40) I do fancy having a fun car with driver conveniences like heating that works and that doesnt smell of petrol, sat nav and blue tooth.
I don't go on the track a lot but when I do a really enjoy it. Has anyone here used one on the track and how did you find it?
The thing I love about the Type R is the cornering and high revs. Just trying to gauge what kind of an experience the Mustang would have for me if I switched, aside from a great sound track.
One bonus would be that I could take more than 1 kid with me to enjoy the car, as all my kids love going in the Civic as they think its a little race car. But would be nice to go somewhere with my 3 with me

Mine is mapped to around 470bhp with Eibach springs and rollbars and whilst that suspension with that amount of power is a lot of fun, an S550 Mustang is far from a tracktoy.
Not to say you can't track them but if you're looking at spending +£30K on a tracktoy there are far better alternatives out there.
They are a very big, very heavy piece of kit and that does diminish the experience somewhat.
If you do get one make sure you get catchcans for both banks of the engine. You only need the driver's side for road use but on track a passenger side one is a must as well.
Off the top of my head, I would probably plump for something along the lines of some iteration of M3 if passengers are a consideration. £30K would buy a lot of car + mods.

I use mine on track quite a bit, also done some sprinting in it and have some hill climbs planned soon.
They are a lot of fun on track, not the sharpest tool, but entertaining.
Couple of points to note:
Against a civic, running costs will be much greater, they eat brake pads and tyres if you push hard on track.
If you wanted something for only track use, then I'd say get something else.
If you'll be doing more road miles than track miles then it's a fantastic bit of kit.
I've had track focused cars in the past and recently have wanted something that isn't embarrassed on circuit but isn't horrible to drive on the road, hence Mustang was the answer.

Good god! wouldn't dream of tracking mine I'm afraid, there are far better options than a heavy tail happy Mustang for track work.
Great as a fun car, I can light up the back tyres just pulling off my drive, it gets loads of attention when parked up, my kids love it (convertible) and cheap as chips to run (£175 for 12 month service).

Well in the end I traded in the Land Cruiser as it was starting to cost a fair bit to maintain.
Got a 5.0L GT and am awaiting the buyer to pickup my old EP3. Will miss both the LC and EP3 as loved both of them.
But really love my Mustang and it’s easily the best car I have owned.
Sense of occasion every time I drive it and lots of positive comments from people just passing by.
Just need to save for an exhaust replacement now as I feel it could do with being a bit louder.

Whether you plan to track or not, you can noticeabely improve the handling with a few well chosen mods. I have:
- BMR cradle lockout kit
- Eibach Pro-Kit springs
- 20mm Eibach spacers all round
The above can be bought and fitted for well under £1k and calm the back end down for much better traction, improves cornering/body roll and makes the car look more aggressive. All without compromising ride quality.
That's the great thing about Mustang's, there's a huge aftermarket scene so you can make the car just how you want it for not a lot of money.
