Private Import of an 05 Mustang
Discussion
It's fairly straight forward, first you need to find a dealer happy to supply you, there are issues with Ford & the export of these cars. Then find a shipping company to collect the vehicle from the dealer, handle the paperwork & tax issues upon arrival in the UK.
The SVA test is bit of a problem, you have to know what you are doing to get the car through the test.
Give me another week & I will let you know if it all went smoothly!! (the ship is scheduled to dock on April 7th)

which basically contains some excellent links to websites which will guide you. I have just imported my 2000 GT which I had when living over there, and found the importation and SVA/paperwork reasonably pain free. I would heartily recommend Mildenhall Auto Centre in Suffolk, who have been excellent in undertaking all the modifications and getting it through te SVA - and at last count, they had 7 new 2005 Mustangs awaiting mod's! Hope this helps and best of luck.

Just had mine done last week, passed the test on Friday in Norwich. It needed, a seperate rear fog, rear indicators relocated to reverse lamps, front side lights moved to headlamp cluster. Side repeatersa added to front wings. Temporary fitment of more prominent front indicators (removed after test) & the exhaust shortening to pull the tips in an inch.
Mildenhall Auto Centre did the work & I took the car myself for the test. Should be registered on Wednesday.
No problem with entire importing process, car arrived in perfect order at Felistowe with 7 miles on the clock. I would do it again in a flash.

Indicators should be no more than 400mm inboard of the sides and no less than 500mm apart. I don't see how the reverse lights comply.
A guy here has just imported a Mustang GT in ... yes, mineral grey and whoever did his SVA has removed the outer section of red light and grafted in an orange pane of perspex. It looks fantastic.
As for the car itself, make sure you get the extras it needs. the unpainted mirrors look cheap and the plastic door cards look like an acre of cheap nasty plastic. I believe you can get cloth inserts. The seats are also a bit flat and lacking in support.
Personally, I loved the Mustang and can see me getting one at some point in the future. It's just a bit disappointing that the interior and seats are inferior to my '98 Z28. Love the dash though.
I may be interested in a metallic blue GT500 next year too.
