2018 Mustang (current model updated) worth waiting for?
Discussion
I have a 2017 Mustang in order, due c.April 2017.
I have started to see reports that at the Detroit show in Jan 2017 Ford will reveal the updated current model with a 10speed box, 5.2V8 and tweaked styling to come out early 2018.
Worth cancelling my ordering and redirecting the deposit to the 2018 model?

No. The 2021 model will be far better. Wait for that. Although I had heard the 2025 model will be even better.
Point is, where do you stop?
I take it 2018 is the US release, in which case how long do you think it will be before it makes it over here in RHD? IF it makes it over here in RHD...

It's a fair point I've asked myself.Point is, where do you stop?

My thinking is that by the time mine turns up it will have been 14 mths of waiting - kind of got used to that!
If they reveal in next 3 mths I could redirect and then just wait another 12-14 months. I'm actually not in a massive rush and strangely enjoying the wait.
I'd also be at the front of the queue for the new model.
I wouldn't keep waiting as if I went for the 2018 model it would be current when I got it - I just fear a sense that by the time I get mine it's already (nearly) the outgoing model.
It's likely I'll take my order as they aren't depreciating yet over here in Oz but the thought of the new box, upgraded interior and potentially newer engine is inviting.
I don't think it'll be the GT350 engine but rather an altered version of the 5.0 with a bit more power.
If I worried about every car or motorcycle refresh, new model launch or change in tax laws, I would never have bought anything.
It's not an investment nor never will be, it's going to be my toy to enjoy for years.
If and when this new model appears on our shores in 2018, you can bet your life it won't be under 40k for the V8 .

Didn't realise you were down under.
Isn't the Mustang pretty common over there now (relatively)? That being the case, it might pay to wait for the new one as come resale time yours would have been one of the first.
If you're not fussed about the wait then I'd probably hang on if I were you.

Thanks for the input chaps.
Something to ponder.
Will keenly watch the next few months and see what arises. I don't mind waiting tbh. It's my first and only new car I'll ever get so keen to get the current and latest thing to enjoy but the realities of life are that depreciation is important

I'm in the same boat as you OP, have a Mustang on order due for delivery around April 2017.
My expereince of Ford updates in the past generally tell me there will be a minor (blink and you'll miss it) styling upgrade and maybe some minor mechanical fettling.
Rumours suggest the main mechanical change will be the 10 speed autobox, but as I have ordered a manual that doesn't affect me.
Also, the new version will probably come with a bumped up price, particularly in the UK with the £ taking such a beating since June. So it will also be a case of weighing up whether the extra money is worth it.
If I do want the 2018 model I can always cancel my current order and re-order, no biggie.

If we believe rumours MY18 will bring:
5.0 with direct and port injection. So power bump to around 460BHP and improved economy.
10-speed auto option
Options such as magnetic ride and active exhaust, so if true well worth the wait unless you want and prefer the older school 6 speed auto.

Good info there - sounds bloody good and yes, tempted to wait tbh.
One of the issues might be a price rise over the current version.
Here in oz mine is coming in at $68k on the road which is great value but if it pushes up to near $90k then it's game over, not worth it.
The $aud is very sensitive to the us$ and prices change a lot - Jeep and Chrysler did this with their SRT versions pushing theirs up $15k and decimating sales overnight.

Difficult to know for sure what Ford will come out with in Jan, but this article suggests that rumour isn't true.5.0 with direct and port injection. So power bump to around 460BHP and improved economy.

I never mentioned a 4.8l, that article is about a 4.8l which is actualy extremely unlikely to happen.http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/n...
DI/PI is most likely.

No have a massive dilemma as to whether to bump my order for a MY18, or take delivery of my MY17 in April. I wonder how much the price will go up?
