Ahead of my GT arriving in the coming months I'd like some opinions on best options for number plate mounting especially on the front.

Standard fit from my dealer (Vospers, Exeter) is the black number plate mount that the cars apparently come with.

On a red car that doesn't really hit the spot for me so thinking of asking them to just use sticky velcro or similar.

Have seen a variety of pieces mentioned but thought be useful to get opinions all in a single thread!

Cheers in advance

Also getting my Mustang from Vospers in Exeter (Convertible Ecoboost in Race Red). Also not sure about front plate mounting- part of me thinks that if you use what is supplied with the car it will at least touch first if you "miss judge" the distance at the front when parking. I do like the "stow n show" bracket you can get from CJ Ponyparts but would need modding a bit for UK style plates unless you have a square front plate- with my personalised registration that's not an option for me. I may just ask them to use double sided tape to start with (as they have done on showroom car) & decide once I have the car. I will ask them to let me have the black plate surround as well just in case - how about getting it panted red to match the car? I am also contemplating front parking sensors ( have rear ordered on the car) as front is huge. When I know more about when the car will be on its way I will ask about dealer fit option of doing this ( I also have US spec GT upper & lower front grilles that I would like fitted so if hey were fitting parking sensors maybe they could do this for me? I also have US spec rear panel to get rid of faux gas cap. What's been your experience of Vospers- I have had no updates on my car so have gone direct to Ford & awaiting an update tomorrow.

Mine is a black GT vert i have used rear number plate plinth as supplied however front number plate is "stuck" directly to bumper. IMHO it looks better than the front plinth which i have retained for next owners use should they so wish. Can someone please let me know how to attach pictures on here.

My dealer (Gates of Harlow) kindly mounted my front plate without the factory plinth mount. I also used the rear mounting plinth.

No trouble with bending perspex plate to fit front bumper to use double sided sticky pads then? I will probably go this way front & rear if possible then ( but ask for the plastic mounting plinths to be put in the boot just in case I decide later t use them).

I didn't act on the plate fitting issue before I took delivery, so my 'Stang came with the dealer fitted mounting kits at both front & rear (& metal plates with the GB flag). I don't like either of them, so have removed them & attached Perspex plates using double-sided tape. The pic below is when it was in the showroom, I think the front mount looks particularly ugly / bulky.

The front is a bit tricky due to the point in the centre of the bumper, but if you use thinner tape in the middle (1mm) & thicker tape at the sides (I used 6mm), it works fine & the Perspex bends enough to stay attached. The rear is fine with the same thickness of tape all over. I don't have any pics yet with them on the car, but will post again when I have some to share.

Perfect thanks all

Re Vospers, woeful but not down to them but down to ford and the systems in play

I've chased them regularly for updates and when they've had them they've proactively contacted me but the truth is they haven't had any info.

I had a build date of end November, then it got Stuck awaiting parts and tools

Nicholas called me last week to say it had left the factory heading for the docks and once he had the ship details he'd let me know. I suspect mid February it be ready for me however at that point it may inexplicably have to be delayed until 1st March wink

Warm the front plate in the middle and bent it to match the bumper line. That way you don't have it sticking out at the ends.

Noel1983- go direct to Ford for an update. Hopefully its on its way now!
Having seen that front plate on Snorty's car I definitely think double sided tape is the way forward - great Registration number! When you removed the plinth to use double sided tape, I guess there was only two holes n the bumper that would then be covered by the number plate anyway?

I've been quite relaxed to be honest, one of those things it'll be here when it's here, I've even turned down a test drive worth the exeter guys as want the first one I drive to be mine smile

Yep double sided tape definitely the way to go

Very interested in options for front sensors if anyone gets anymore info

When I removed the mounts, there were 2 screw holes in the front & 4 in the back (which has the US-style plate holes pre-loaded), but the replacement persex plates cover them all quite comfortably. I didn't warm the front plate, but I can see that might help.

Glad you like the reg! It cost me £399 from the DVLA & I feel it really finishes off a great car!

Whilst we're on the subject of pre collection thinking what (if any) extra prep items are you doing?

Is anyone considering professional detailing or inspection or similar?

I've only every had one brand new car before which was a Renault Clio so this is a slightly different league so wondering what I should be thinking about?!

Mine are on with 3m vhb tape straight onto bumper, took the mounting plates away when I inspected the car so they couldn't even be tempted to put them on. I did tell them anyway not to use them anyway.
As you can see the front is about as flush as it gets

If you warm up the plate to bend it it means it fits nice and tight to the front bumper.

Just had a look for 3M VHB tape & there is different types- which one would you recommend?
Also suggestions on how to heat up the plate- would the wife's hair drier do the job?

You don't need to heat the plate up, the bend isn't that severe. Any of the plastic bonding vhb will do, there's a high strength one. Dealer should do it for you though if you ask them to mount directly onto the bumper.

does the mounting plinth damage the bumper at all? Would I be able to remove the dealer fit one once I get it at home on the drive and do the adhesive version of the mounting?

That's what I did, & it worked fine. The dealer mounts left small holes in the bumpers, but they're fully covered by the Perspex plates, plus I can reuse the mounts at any time in the future (or screw the Perspex plates in without mounts) without having to drill holes myself.
