Ok so I have just spent a week and 1200 miles cavorting around Florida in a 2015 Mustang. It was however the 3.7l V6 Convertible - a model not for sale here in the UK.
If you have ordered the 5.0 expect to spend a few bob on fuel
The pic is for town driving - it did go lower later on. Over 1200 miles I averaged 23mpg ( us gallons) but at least 1000 miles of this was freeway driving at between 55 and 80. ( At 80 it is only pulling 2000 revs

.
That said the 5.0 is on my list as a possible future purchase

8mpg blimey! Was that heavy stop/start traffic?

I used to see 13mpg on the computer in my Boxster for the Central London commute and measuring brim to brim I was getting 12mpg in my Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6 V8 for the same journey. I was hoping the 5.0 Mustang might be a little better than that.

My 2014 S197 5.0 V8 GT Premium is 19mpg (US Gallon). Bear in mind my car is probably heavier than a S550. My car is totally standard. On a long run I can average around 25mpg in fact I made it from Milwaukee to Cincinatti last week on nearly one tank (showing 350 miles to empty after fill up).

I drove one 600 miles the other weekend from San Francisco, to Tahoe, Reno and back.
I drove it pretty hard in the mountains, and it handled well, I also got a US 32.4mpg, so read UK 35mpg.

So your mileage may vary, but I doubt many 5.0 customers are going to a) worry about the fuel consumption or b) drive enough miles to make a big difference.
