Hello all,

Notwithstanding how very difficult it is going to be actually get hold of one, I am seriously tempted to try and get one of the new Shelbys back to the UK, once they come out of course! Anyone else got a similar plan? Anyone see any reason why this car couldn't be used in the UK?

Thanks.

KH.

Will just be like the current import, SVA etc will be needed.

It's a good way to get into a S550 GT350 go for it!

I'm sure the s550 has been much more of a success in the UK (so far) than Ford were imagining, so I'm hoping that it will tempt them to officially bring the GT350 to the UK in RHD - in which case I'd definitely be up for one. Probably wishful thinking - but as the standard car already has type approval, how difficult would it be to do the same for the GT350? They're not that different, are they? ....

Problem is it's not Ford but Shelby who take a vanilla mustang to their vegas factory to fettle then ship back to ford/customer.

As far as I am aware there are no plans for Shelby to do this with RHD cars. We are a very small minority of the total sales for Mustang.

There were rumors of Shelby franchises opening up in each territory in order to do this locally for customers but I haven't heard much about it.

You can always buy my GT500 biggrin

I think Bill Shepherd plans to bring the GT350 over when available but there will be a premium to pay.

He already has some US S550 GTs for around £10k more than Ford UK will be selling them for but I'm sure one has been sold already.

GT350 looks great but I would sooner buy the GT then mod it with Ford Racing Supercharger, sports pipe, lower shocks and short shifter and save £10k+. That will be a kick ass car and the wing mirrors will even project the image of a mustang horse on the pavement at night - what's not to like...

Must agree with previous the comment that given the overwhelming interest and number of orders for the S550 Stang-Ford should introduce the GT350 to UK shores. That said it will be much more dosh and i'm sticking to plan 'A' smile

Shelby GT350 is a post title modification. There will, apparently, be approved Shelby retailers in Europe.

It means you'll have to purchase, and register, a car before it gets the Shelby treatment. Hopefully this will be able to be carried out at the approved retailers. If not it means shipping it to Shelby in Vegas, which is what US owners have to do.

I heard Bill Shepherd has got Shelby approval.

Would be great to be able to take delivery then get it upgraded here - but given the 350 has a flat plane crank engine, it's not going to be cheap!

Perhaps it will be a scalable set of mods, from cosmetic through suspension/drivetrain ala Roush?

Can anyone from BS confirm?

So you spend £35k on a car, then essentially throw away the drivetrain, suspension, most of the front bodywork and the wheels and tyres? Doesn't sound very economical confused ..... or do Ford just ship the shell and other relevant parts direct to Shelby?

It's going to depend on how Ford decide to do it.

If it's a standard Ford production model you can just order it from Ford. Same as the GT500 when they took back production of those to in-house.
Previous Shelby models such as the outgoing GT350 and Super Snake have been produced by Shelby. You buy a car, pay for it, and arrange for it to be shipped to Shelby. They do the conversion work and keep all the bits they take off.

Hopefully it will be the former rather than the latter.

Some of the GT350 option prices are now published in the US;

2015 GT350 Option Pricing (MSRP):
◦Tech Package = $7500.
◦Track Package = $6500.
◦Navigation = $795.
◦Painted Black Roof = $695.
◦Triple Yellow = $495.
◦Over the top stripes = $475.

2015 GT350-R Option Pricing (MSRP):
◦R Package (over base GT350) = $3500.
◦SVT Touring Package = $3,000.
◦Navigation = $795.
◦Painted Black Roof = $695.
◦Over the top stripes = $475.

Not sure what the base car will retail at, but estimates in the US are being made of around $45k. If they could keep the price as competitive in the UK as they have done for the standard GT you could potentially bag a 350R for mid-£50's .... and while I would hesitate to describe that as a 'bargain', I most definitely would be getting my name on the list .... plus I'd have another few months to save up! Ford ..... please please please .... a RHD version! bow

Visited the Shelby factory and heritage centre in LV a couple of weeks ago - muscle car heaven! Well worth the trip with twice daily, free, guided tours and the opportunity to sign their visitor 'wall of fame'. Exit-through-the-gift-shop, without spending if you can!

As far as I could tell they were working at full capacity with a real buzz of excitement throughout the production area. A couple of vehicles were under wraps and the host was very vague when questioned about what was concealed underneath.

I hope you signed the wall.

Absolutely, the wall was dutifully signed by my daughter (she's the real Mustang fan, I'll confess to being more of a Challenger man) and a number of Shelby logo'd items purchased in the gift shop. I defy any muscle car fan not to buy something in that Aladdin's cave of tribute to Carroll Shelby with very fair pricing and friendly, helpful staff too.

The 2016 Shelby GT350 and GT350R are official Ford models, not to be confused with the Shelby GT which is a Ford Mustang GT modified by Shelby in Vegas or by Shelby's authorised 'mod shops' (see link). The Shelby GT350 has the flat-plane crank, the Shelby GT, a supercharged cross-plane Mustang 5.0 V8 engine.

The more i see it, the more i've gotta have one! .... now all i have to do is convince a multi-national, multi-billion dollar, impenetrable corporation to a) reverse it's decision to only make LHD and b) keep the price reasonable. Simples! biggrin

It has been stated in a number of articles over here that the base price of the GT350 is US$47,999
not official as yet but this is a great price if correct as is the 100bhp + per litre on the flat crank
However trying to get a hold of one in canada is proving pretty difficult so i guess trying to get one over the pond may require a great deal of effort in sourcing ! good luck - i was not a fan of the new mustang but seeing the gt350 has changed my mind !

Yes, I guessed 2015 cars might be difficult to come by as they're only making such limited numbers. But to be honest I wasn't planning on looking at this seriously until early 2016 - by which time I'm hoping Ford may have had a re-think on UK availability .... even if an official UK car was LHD I'd probably still get one. Fingers crossed! smile

You're absolutely right, just over $45k for 550bhp is good value in my book - and it looks and sounds SO good. A lot of people seem to prefer going down the super-charger route for more power, but it's not for me really.
