After a chance meeting with sonicbloo at Newby Hall a few weeks ago I am toying with the idea of an 05ish Mustang drophead as an everyday car, (if I sell 2 TVRs and a Mini and a Jag X type)
Looking through various ads recently most cars seem to be, to me, very low mileage. Is this the norm, do they not do high miles. I thought the American Motor was good for thousands of miles.
Any comments on high milers?

Most are owned by people who have them as toys. Mine is approaching 14000. There are no issues with this engine at high mileages and the only ones I can think of is that the spark plugs can snap in the head if they're not taken out carefully, alternators can pack in and the battery can discharge if left for longer periods so a conditioner is a good idea.
I think convertibles are even more of a weekend/summer toy and less likely to be daily driven than a coupe ( hats off to anyone who does though!) so expect fairly low mileage. My '05 now has 36K miles (19k when I bought it in 2010). Low 20's MPG will also keep mileage down for most people. I think the hardest thing will be to find one in your ideal spec/colour/price range, the coupe is far more plentiful in the UK.
I really hope you manage to sell your cars and get a Mustang, I'll take you for a test drive next time we meet up as I don't think you've driven one yet !!!

I have now got 72,000 miles on my GT Coupe, and had no bother with it at all. Maintain it by the book and I can't for see any problems. The ball joints on the font suspension arms do wear (mine went after 35,000 miles), which reminds me I must grease those
The only actual I have had on my car was the alternator, which turned out to be a dry solder joint in the rectifier bridge.
It had 23,000 on it when I got it, it now has 72,000 on, it had new front brakes at 18k (god knows what the previous owner did with them) but the ones fitted then are just coming to the ends of their life.
I replaced the battery as the old one died last winter (6 years for an OE battery that takes a fair amount of hammer).
Other than that just service items

I had an 06 coupe I ran as a daily for 5.5 years 50k plus put on it and only issue was the alternator, ordered one off ebay with higher output as the originals where a known issue from America, arrived quickly job done. Great car but I needed 5 seats as I have three kids so bought a Challenger SRT8 otherwise I probably would have kept it, oh an lost £1500 in 5.5 years ownership !!!
