Ha ha
only messing...
Well as my name suggests had vettes for 14 years, originally classic C3 then onto a newer 99 C5 which I love, running costs, performance, sound etc all great..
funny whn I got C3 I wanted a mustang but it wouldn't fit in the garage! now looking at Wikepedia the new Mustangs seem to be same dimensions as my C5

so I was thinking now what next, wanting something newer, lower miles and more power! looking at Z06 Vette or similar, more modern version of mine, then started looking at some you tube clips of the Roush Mustang, and the thought of looks, supercharged 450 bhp etc got me thinking, particularly as there seem to few more around, and they seem a bit cheaper too.... also looked at GT500 but some debate about the suspension being a bit rough? I believe the Roush has this sorted?

anyway, total noob on the Stangs, and any guidance, ( biased as it maybe be ha ha!!) would be great.. are there any owners who very originally vette owners? never been in one.. any owners in the North East?

there also seems to be some, nice custom options, I also notice some of the price range cars actually already come with extras and look great

I'm probably going to trade / Sell in my C5 and my motorbike to get what ever I go for next..

thanks a lot

check your garage doors are are 7ft wide!!!!!S197 mustangs are 74" wide with the standard non folding mirrors.

You maybe right about getting a Roush (or maybe Saleen), although Shelby owners are sure to disagree. The shelby has horrendous thirst according to some owners and the early 2007's had a clutch issue which was resolved on later models. The Roush in supercharged form was faster around the top gear test track than the heavier engined shelby. Typical supercharged Roush 4.6 gives around 435 horse power, which is not a lot more than the standard 5.0 GT's introduced in 2011. All depends on budget and personal preference really, supposedly the best 'all rounder' is the Boss 302 from 2012, but the cheapest I have seen is £36k.

Stunning stage 3 Roush convertible for sale in white with blue stripes if you want topless motoring http://www.s197.co.uk/s197/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic....

Being a gt500 owner I would say they are amazing cars (biased obviously) thirst is an questionable issue as any v8 with over 500bhp isn't exactly economical. I have owned a 11" and now the monsterous 13" there is a huge leap in what you get from the 11-13. Having not owned a roush I can't comment but from doing my hours if research to reviews and you tube and anything I can read in the internet I would suggest the boss is the greatest all rounder. Even looked at getting one my self, best route for that is getting one in Europe second hand and avoid the nasty imports tax and duty from the USA. There are a couple good examples for sale at the minute 12&13's look on auto scout for a idea

Not sure where in the North east you are, but maybe worth coming to Malton for the breakfast meeting on the 20th april. There is usually a few mustangs to look round, plus would be good to see another 'vette in attendance

"Yorkshire Big Breakfast - Easter Sunday 20th April 2014
It is that time of year again, the first big run out of the year, the Yorkshire Big Breakfast at Specialist Cars of Malton.

Easter Sunday, 20th April 2014, will see thousands of drivers meet at Malton from 8.30am for a bacon sandwich and a chance to look at some of the finest metal in the North of England.

Now in its 7th year the Yorkshire Big Breakfast has grown to become one of the North's premier multi-marque car events with every kind of sports and classic car in attendance. We've had over 3000 people attend the last events and this promises to be even bigger.

As always everyone is welcome, no matter what you drive (or ride, motorbikes are of course welcome), please pass this invite on to your car clubs, owners clubs, friends and colleagues, it is the mix of makes and models that makes this event so exciting.

As you can imagine due to the scale of the Big Breakfast we have a hefty police presence to ensure the event remains a fun, safe and enjoyable family day out. We hope everyone will help us to keep the continued running of the Yorkshire Big Breakfast viable by driving sensibly and enjoying themselves responsibly.

We're working closely with North Yorkshire Police and implementing a professionally managed traffic management plan so please follow the directions of our marshals. Once again the one way system will be in place, entering at the Malton side of the business park and leaving at the A64 side.

There is a facebook event if you want to use it to invite your friends, https://www.facebook.com/events/599393893486702/

See you then!"

Surprised Malc350 hasn't responded. Perhaps he's not seen the thread yet? He's had both interesting vettes and currently has a Shelby. He's also had quite a bit of seat time in my cars. You will find the Stang attracts a lot of attention.

I had a 2000 Euro spec C5 convertible that I acquired in the UK and repatriated to the US when I emigrated. It was a stock LS1 auto, other than a Blackwing intake, Magnaflow exhaust and a Transgo kit.
I now have a 2012 Mustang GT with similar light mods (Airaid CAI, Bama, Zoomer exhaust etc).

Two very different cars, as you'd expect. The C5 was something of a head turner in the UK back in 2000, but also attracted a lot of unwanted attention from morons in Subarus and potential thieves (it wouldn't fit in my garage).

It was a more 'precise' drive than my current car, but not appreciably faster (and 70hp less powerful). The power delivery characteristics of the pushrod engine are more favorable in my opinion - the DOHC Coyote motor needs to be revved quite hard to get into the sweet spot.

My Mustang isn't as sure-footed and composed as the Vette was either. I have fitted a strut brace and poly-bush rear connectors, but it's still not as sharp as the C5 was, but is easier to catch and steer on the throttle, when the rear tires break traction.

The Corvette's brakes were also a lot more aggressive, though my next Mustang mod is slightly larger wheels and a big brake kit. The Mustang's brakes are OK - but not great.

My Ford is a GT "Premium", so has upgraded leather and ICE and despite hard plastic door caps and is nicer than the Vette, as you'd expect with these cars being 12 years apart.

Over a quarter mile, there's probably not a lot in it - Vette launches faster, Mustang accelerates harder above 80-90mph.

The real difference is after-market and OEM modification potential of the Mustang compared to the Corvette. The up-grading potential of the Mustang is seemingly endless - not so much the case with the C5.

Pre-2011 Mustang GT has Ford 'modular' 4.6l motor, which in stock form is a little puny - but as with all Mustangs, has huge tuning/mod potential, because the internals are very stout.

To summarize (and my opinion only, of course) it's a little off-side to compare an old Vette with a newer Mustang.
I'd take a C6 over a 5.0 GT all day long, but would prefer my Mustang to a stock C5.

Very interesting that.. Cheers for posting..

There does seem to be endless modding potential with the mustangs, and they visually do look great, I'm going to make sure and take did time to look at all options... I wish I had the money to have both! That would be ideal...

I'm also probably weighing up a C6 Z versus this..

If by the above, you mean C6 ZO6 - I'm not really sure why this thread exists. If that is an option for you, you would be clinically insane to go Mustang (any Mustang IMO) over a C6 ZO6.

If you meant C5 ZO6, that's a totally different and more logical argument.

He's right but the C6 Z06 remains in a much higher price category so I suspect it's a balancing exercise of money and having fun.

Yes both right!
C6 Z would be nice, but it's higher price out of reach currently... Iam going to drive one sometime just to see what they're like.. There's always thought of saving up, waiting for further price drops as C7s arrive, next year the new Z..
But always loved the look of mustangs, and really trying to weigh up all options ... Had a local kind offer to look at one, which I'm going to do...

But interesting Matt you say you'd take Z over any mustang? Even the latest ones?

But not sure I could do without anything in the meantime! Sensible says save and sell everything... But can't ever accuse me of being sensible when it comes to cars!! But some nice stangs around for decent money, which sparked thought process off
Really, as these things are money pits wanted next one to be for long term as well... Hopefully

Yes, without question. By 'latest ones', I'm assuming you don't mean the Gen 6 2015 Mondeo/Taurus look-alike coupe, so correct me if you do (though my feelings would be the same).

C6 ZO6 is a quite formidable package, with a genuine race-proven pedigree - lots of cross-over from the WEC/ALMS program in terms of aero, suspension, brakes and transmission. It is a bona-fide 'super car' that is accessible to the common man (relatively) vs Ferrari's, Porsche's and Lambo's that cost at least twice as much and have performance parity or less.

The only viable contender from Ford (not including Ford GT) is the GT500, which is a hot-rod - an impressive hot-rod, but a souped-up blue collar coupe, nonetheless. Dynamically it is significantly inferior to the ZO6 - just my own view of course, but I have driven both quite a lot.

In Mustang's favor, it does have (cramped) rear seats and already stated endless tuning potential - but the start-point (C6 Corvette vs 5th Generation Mustang) makes it quite hard for me to go anywhere other than GM.

That said, I have a Mustang - not a Corvette and the rationale is plain for me and is predominantly economic. My GT 5.0 was cheap and there is this wealth of tuning/personalization potential to tap into. I can service it myself at home and I'm not hugely precious about leaving it in a parking lot and stressing about it. Not sure my attitude would be as relaxed about a Corvette and most certainly would not be regarding ZO6. Finally, I share my car with my wife, who was never all that confident in our Corvette - I spend a great deal of my time away from home with work, so it's only fair that she has some say in what car we run.

I don't look at PH that much Brett because of trollers like the one on the Corvette forum that posted about the Z06.

However; Yes I have owned a 2005 GT with Roush suspension which at first transformed the car but now I wouldn't probably take up valuable dustbin space with Roush gear: read that as: a rear shock that broke, front struts that leaked and lost effectiveness in a few 1000 miles, springs that creak like a bed in a Texas brothel.

I now have a 2007 GT500 bought with very low miles (I am adding to this quickly though). It's basically a great car: Brett's right it gets a lot of attention. Thank God it's black: if it was a more noticeable colour like red I think it would be embarrassing.

The GT500 is how Ford build a 60's musclecar in modern times. I have made a few mods to mine and the handling is pretty decent. Hell even Brett the C6 Z06 owner commented on how well it went round a corner on our recent sunny Sunday Kent drive. Not that it corners like a Z06 but it is pretty good.

Anyway here's what I have done to make a 2007 GT500 into a better car:

Ford Racing suspension (from a 2011/2012 GT500) and BBR lower control arms: now handling is taught and responsive and quite predictable. Ride is a bit crap around London but really good on a main road and actually reasonable refined as a high speed grand tourer.

Brenspeed Stage 2 100+ rear wheel horsepower kit: consisting of a smaller pulley which adds about 50% more boost, a 123mm intake and conical air filter, cooler plugs and SCT tuner: this has really woken it up and now it flies and it is a bit of a live wire now - in fact you have to consciously keep off the throttle to avoid ending up in trouble.

This is the best car I have owned. Apparently for another 3 or 4 grand I can equal the 662bhp of the 2013 which I may well consider if I ever have the money. I am currently spending everything on petrol...

Best thing is: these cars look great and actually have a lot of character.

I don't know what I would get next: it could only be a C6 Z06 (though I quite like having a 4 seater car) or a 2013 GT500...
