Guidance for importing mustang fastback from US
Discussion
Hi everyone,
apologies in advanced as I am 100% clueless and chasing a dream.
my whole life I have always wanted a fastback 1967 because they are absolutely beautiful. the problem is that I have no idea about importing one from the US. what im looking for is some guidance from someone who knows about importing a classic car. for example;
importing prices, paperwork I need, best shipping options also the risks of getting your car held in customs etc.
I was told if the VIN number doesnt match some minor details of the car, this would cause a massive problem.
much appreciated,
thank you
-Louise

Hi Louise,
First off, great choice of car! I imported my 67 390 fastback 10 years ago now so some of the process is a little sketchy now. To leave the US the car will have to have its clear US title (our V5) and bill of sale. Once in the UK and you have paid the shipping and import duty, you will require a visit to your local DVLA branch with the shipping clearance, copy of US title, relevant DVLA form and cost of registering in the UK (£55 I think). I was quite a painless exercise, although I'm not sure if anythings changes since.
If you post on www.classic-mustang.co.uk some of the guys there have done it more recently than me and may be able to give you some useful contacts.
Good luck with the search, it brings back some happy memories for me!

American muscle is the way forward!
thats very helpful thank you.
at least now i know what stages to go through. Its very daunting when you have no idea what youre doing, especially when buying something so big abroad.
