I'm currently in cape cod on holiday, and have pretty much fallen in love with the V8 mustang hire car. It's not perfect by any means and the 38p a litre fuel here is amusing but I like it anyway.
Realistically in the uk this would need to be a 2nd car, and even as a ph company director I couldn't swing the £30k for the 5.0. Is the 4.6 anywhere near as good? I've driven the 4.0 V6 and while it made a nice noise I wanted more power, with the 5.0 I just want a long straight!
So 4.6 V8 mustangs in the Uk seem to start around the £12k mark, would I just be horribly disappointed? Or would waiting for the UK version be worthwhile given that they're much cheaper in the US?

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a V8 version to be available here in the UK!
You wouldn't be dissapointed at all with a 4.6, 300bhp, lots of torque and a fantastic soundtrack, most here have been modified (uprated suspension etc) so are a lot better than standard. They are very easy to get more power out of, bolt on a supercharger and 400+ is no problem.
(Yes I run a supercharged 4.6)

I've a supercharged Roush 4.6 and a new 5.0.
The Roush picks up just a little bit quicker then the new 5.0, and sounds awesome with it's Roush 'offroad' system. If I could keep them both I'd probably keep the Roush. But I can't - so it's for sale. If it was a standard 4.6, then the 5.0 wins.
But you will not be disappointed.

Hmmm, I was slightly disappointed by the standard Mustang GT but came from a 5.7 litre Camaro Z28. If you're driving the 5.0 then you're going to lose 125hp. On the other hand, you'll gain 80 over the 4.0 V6. Like many, mine has 462 from a blown 4.6 and that is ideal so you might want to look for one of those.
They start around £20k and normally come with lot of upgrades as well.
