Hello,

Our company is looking to ad an extra car to our renting service.
The 2 cars we are thinking off are the Shelby GT500 and the Audi R8.

And what we really want to know is how do these cars compare when it comes to maintenance costs?

Hope somebody can Help me.

The Mustang is basically oil changes and nothing a home mechanic can't do.
I doubt the Audi engine is in anything like the same league for economy of running costs.
Ask Surrey Mustang, Bill Shepherd Mustang, Modurstang or Hertford tyres the costs on servicing the GT500.

The GT500 has a bad reputation for clutches, i.e. the factory one isn't up to the job and it's a 2 grand+ cost to replace it. However there are replacements from Centreforce and Spec which seem well recommended. A friend has had a Spec clutch put in for about £800 though someone handy could maybe do it themseleves (if the fancy lying under a 2 ton car dropping a 1 ton gearbox!)

Does sound like the clutch is the GT500 Achilles heel...

Actually they aren't bad to do, and the gearbox is an alloy unit so doesn't quite weigh the '1 ton'.
Spec clutches are a very good replacement - we've done a few!
