I've found a lovely Jap spec V8 GT 95 'stang.. sub 20k miles with history to back it up.

I used to work for JEEP a few years ago and drove LHD cars but committing to one as an only car... :S

Is there anything specific I need to look for with it? Common faults? Is LPG a swear word?

Reassure me guys, I'm 31 with no kids and no responsibility. I'm thinking at the least if I look after it I'll have a low mileage depreciationless car.

Thoughts..?

sub 20k miles?, sounds like a good find. Nothing really to look for thats different from a 'normal' car. I suspect its an auto and gearbox oil should have been changed by now to the correct spec (mercon v if memory serves me right) otherwise the car will drive like its going over a cattle-grid all the time. Jap/euro rear lights are worth big money so make sure they're not cracked.

These are great cars, I imported a 94 5.0GT from florida in 1998 and loved it, it had no issues at all and I had it for over 5 years and 20k miles, before importing a later model in 2005.

Stick the same question on the mocgb forum, someone may know the car if its been over here a while

Check insurance before buying, mine was always under £300 for 6000 limited mileage until this year and some quotes were over £600. try adrian flux / stevenage / A-plan etc

good luck, as for no depeciation? it depends what you paid for it. I don't think its worth paying much over £4k even with that low miles.

P.S. LPG is not a swear word, many mustangs have been converted, and you should get your money back in under 2 years, even with moderate mileage, the only thing you'll lose is luggage space or a spare wheel

edit:-

I think I've just seen the car advertised (in swansea?)

If so, I didn't think any of the jap imports come with service history? Also it's advertised with a pic of the odometer showing 15900. If thats true it will be Km (speedo goes up to 240kmh) so the car may only have 10k miles under its belt

It looks a good price, so can't see any problems, although check for accident damage (AA/RAC report perhaps?)

If you buy it, get a full service and treat the leather. Mid 90's mustangs look awful when the leather on the front seats starts to crack due to not being looked after

The service history can come with. I bought a Mustang that had it - all in Japanese wink

As said - make sure the gearbox oil (and filter) is changed. Although just changing the oil will make a big difference (if there is any problem). Unless you drop the oil pan &/or empty the torque converter you'll only get out part of the oil. About 4l from 12 if you just suck out through the dipstick.
If you find a plastic bung in the gbox sump, then you know it hasn't been removed before. (Throw the bung away).
Also - if you do take off the gbox sump - check if you have a reusable gasket first.

A Jap radio only goes up to 89mhz (I think) on the FM band. So that'll need changing if you want to listen to the radio. But CD's play fine.

I've had 3 Jap imports now. Sold my first one only because my mate REALLY loved it - wanted it - so I sold it him and bought another. Then when I sold the 2nd one (with a bit of a profit), I missed it so bought another - a cab this time.
