Does anybody know from what (Ford) car this gearbox is? It fits to a Ford 289 engine bellhousing.

Looks like the main casing is Toploader, so my guess would be it's either from a 4x4 (bronco or similar) or one of the airport 'tugs' that were fitted with SBF V8.

Better late than never? Definitely "Toploader", but made for truck. First introduced in early Mustang and other Ford products needing better durability than the Borg-Warner T-10 then available. Toploader was originally a 3-speed truck transmission, modified to 4 speeds in response to need, and Chrysler's new 4-speed box. impish
