Why don’t they sell this car in the UK – was a fantastic drive.

Just back from the states and the guy at Avis offered me a BMW upgrade – I laughed and said “don’t you have anything American” and he offered a Mustang.

Was shocked it wasn’t the teenage girl/hire car v6 version but the five-point-oh.

Interior was really nice – Leather with Alfa style quilting on the doors , not the soft plastics of an Audi but nice enough. Ambient lighting really lifted it and shaker stereo rocked. But the 5.0 was the star of the motor 414bhp I read on my return and felt like it was the rumoured 4.5sec to 60.

Did 21mpg so about 25 uk mpg which is very good for a 400bhp engine on sluggish USA petrol with the air con on and an auto box.

Found a roundabout in Coral Gables Miami and gave it some stick and it handled really well – not what I was expecting with the live rear end. Felt the weight when transferring from lock to lock but tidy for its size.

Been nosing at prices £33k with SVA work done – tempting biggrin Is there a more popular UK forum or do people hang around on US forums ??

Anyone running the 5.0 on LPG ?

I have a 5.0 here in the UK.

The car is a joy to drive, it's very quick - the 4.5 to 60 is accurate, about 25mpg and great handling. Interior is streets ahead of the 2005-09's. The best 35K I ever spent.

Plenty of info and help available on the MOCGB (Mustang Owners Club of GB).

Quite a few with these 5.0 cars now which come with a Trak-Pak as standard.
Have a YouTube for the Mustang 5.0 vs M3 and also the Mustang Boss Laguna Seca test.

US fuel is the same as here, they just use a different rating so their 93 is our 99.

MPG is good on most American engines which have to pass stringent california emissions tests. I get around 24 UK mpg in my blown 4.6. Imports also only pay £205 VEL a year. Check insurance for your area with specialists though as it's getting harder to find a decent deal.

I know someone with the 4.6 who has been running LPG for over 100k without incident.

Yep, those two sites are where you'll find the owners. They may not be sold in the UK by Ford, but you'll find a number of specialist who already have them in stock in the UK, IVA'd and with a 12 month warranty. Atlantic SportsCars price them from about £35k.

There's a great business idea importing American cars to the UK! Anyway the thing that seriously appeals to me about Mustangs is that they are very easily affordable to the common man or woman, ton loads of market support and customization option yet competitive enough to keep up with M3's.

The rental car you drove was the stock V8.

Spec one with the larger wheels with summer tyres along with track pack and they handle much better, plus Brembo brakes too. smile

I still miss parts of my Saleen, but I am enjoying my 911 a lot, still a 5.0 is tempting. biggrin

They are pretty remarkable now. Even the V-6's perform similarly to the old gt's which was still pretty quick. I think the GT offers a lot of performance for a very reasonable price point
