Meriva constantly running fans

Hi all i need some advice on a 53reg meriva 1.6 8valve temperature gage not working so replaced the coolent temp switch now this works but fan will not switch of this model doesn't have the ccm coolent control module like the later cars i have been told the ecu controls this !! could this be at fault or is their another solutionany advice more than welcome frustrated newbie
