Astra SRi turbo (2002)
Discussion
Anyone had any dealings with the above? Just sold my Vectra GSI at the weekend and now i've seen one of these not too far away,it seems to be cheap though compared to some in the classifieds on here.
Are they pretty much the same as the later Astra GSI? Anything major to look out for?
Cheers

Mechanically they are the same, yes. Both have Z20LET engine, 5 speed F23 gearbox, 308mm front brakes. Performance will be identical.
Cosmetically the differences are, wheels, bodykit, interior. SRi turbo interior is pretty much the same as the other sri models. GSi interior has recaro seats. Both have 17's but different designs.
The main issue with the Z20LET seems to be the standard turbo. Appears to only have a lifespan of about 60K miles. If the turbo has been replaced the item from the VXR is a common replacement. If this is done then lots have a few more bit upgraded and a remap to make 240bhp.
I have considered an Sri-T, GSi but was but off by the weak standard turbo or inflated priced due to the turbo being recently replaced.
Slightly different performance, the GSI has 10bhp more due to the map of the ECU.
As said turbo's can be a weak spot but if looked after (warmed up and cooled before driving hard) will last more than 60k along with a good oil change.
Also can boost a little flat, this is due to the boost control solenoids. easy replacement and cost about £25 from VX.
Pretty solid car though on the whole.
with an exhaust and enlarged air intake/de restricted airbox and panel filter and a remap you should see 240bhp with a healthy engine. add a vxr turbo, FMIC and vxr injectors and you will be looking at a good 280bhp.
I miss my GSI lol.
