I have a very very old very very high milage V6 omega that really needs to be replaced this year, rusty archs and a water ingress I just cant find are getting me down, still drives nice though.

Part of me is saying 3.2 Vectra, part of me is saying 2.8T Vectra (ex police ones are £3500) Also considering Volvo V70 T5.

But the part of may that puts fuel in the omega is saying I should try a diesel.

Just wanted to get an input from any one with a vectra or signum with the 3.0TDCI engine, are they any good, power reliabilty etc. And what kind of real word fuel milage should one expect.

Many thanks.

if I can ever help you with an Audi question in return, find me in the VAG section.

Hi smile

You helped me out a while back over in the VAG forum, so here's my 2p...

The 3.0 CDTi is a lovely engine. Like all diesels, it fares best doing nice long runs and you can reasonably expect 40mpg from it, obviously less if there's a lot of town driving involved. No real issues AFAIK if it's standard and maintained, but the fuel pump is quite fragile and if it's been boxed or remapped failure is likely.

Signums, even though they're built from 95% identical parts to the Vectra, always seem to have better build quality, and they're always better specced in terms of toys and gadgets. Only 3 trim levels on the Signum compared to 7 or 8 on the Vectra, entirely dependent on what you're looking for.

Any specific questions? I'll try and answer as best I can.

solid engine, problems seem rare
won't set the world alight in terms of performance, but solid enough

I'm a big petrol lover, and I did consider one for a while, until I ended up not buying a new car
