My old dear purchased one from new as she got a good deal on it. The car has only just covered 14k miles and the steering wheel is showing very bad signs of wear.

The material covering the wheel has rippled and begining to tear, mainly on the right hand side, but the left side is starting to go now.

She took it into Vauxhall, as her warranty is up at the end of the year. Eden Vauxhall in Reading said they would not replace it, but would ask vauxhall UK. They gave my mum a reference number and called her as they said they would.

However, they refused to replace under warranty. Eden Vauxhall didn't even take any pictures of the wheel to send off to Vauxhall UK??!?

They tried blaming my mum saying it must be rings or something she puts on her hands. She doesn't wear rings on her right hand and out of all the cars she's owned, this has never happened, even with much higher mileage motors. My S2000 has covered 65k now and my steering wheel looks like new!

Anyway, they've fobbed her off saying it's fair wear and tear. What would you do?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Write a complaint e-mail with pictures - be polite but forceful with your language and send it to the highest person you can find an e-mail for in Vauxhall and see where you get!

Good luck, Vauxhall warranty on trim is 1 year only.

You've two hopes, and one of those is Bob Hope.

What would I do? Go anywhere other than Eden Vauxhall. They are the biggest bunch of incompetent tossers I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Try Spratleys over at Mortimer. Totally different.

Sure iv'e seen this before, was put down to the use of hand cream making the leather swell up and wrinkle.... You cant blame the dealer like that,it's trim after all and only cvered for one year! If its three years old they would have little hope of VX saying yes...

Just goes to show how poorly made these GM cars are.

oh and they said they would have to replace the whole steering wheel and couldn't just replace the covering, so does that come under a 'part' or trim?

Still no joy.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had issues like this with the steering wheel?

So after 19,000 miles I have noticed the drivers seat tearing and the material coming out where the half leather meets the airbag piece of plastic. (I have looked after the seats using Gliptone products, which I've used on my Honda which are great). Somebody up the road from us has the extact same problem and I noticed a Corsa in B & Q with the leather torn in the same place. Seems to be a fault with the design. Vauxhall again, don't want to know.

Anyway - we're trading in to get a newer Ford Focus. Will never be buying a Vauxhall again.
