Hi,

I've just got a quick question on behalf of my girlfriend.

She's got a 1.4 R Reg Corsa and she reckons she's getting around 100 miles of 17 litres of fuel which seems ridiculously high (my Golf would easily manage 200 miles off this much fuel). I've tried searching google for some possible causes but drawn a blank. Are there any known issues of Corsas running rich?

I've told her that next time she fills up, to reset the trip mileage and put 10 litres in and see how far she gets.

Cheers

b2

Is it the 16v or 8v engine? The 8v "Hi-Torq" should run on the smell of petrol, as it's only 65hp. The 16v is a lot fruitier on fuel, but most of those are nearly 90hp.

how is the 16v more fruiter on fuel?

the reason they brought out the modern 16v engines was emmisions/fuel consumption, and with a better more modern setup came more power.

the old 8v engines are crap on fuel, used to have a 1.2 8v which would only manage about low 30s.

to get a more accurate method of how much fuel its using I'd go for the brim the tank - run it until nearly empty - and them brim it again to work out mpg.

agreed with Drive Blind

mine's a Corsa C 1.2, and that makes an easy 45mpg
not quite comparable, more modern engine, but still....
