got my vx220 - a couple of questions?
Discussion
Got the car yesterday and put about 50 miles on it. Loving it so far,the girlfriend is off out in it now so i hope it comes back in one piece lol. Just a couple of questions i would like to ask of those more experienced.
1) Are all vx220 fuel gauges random number generators? the readings seem to fluctuate hugely during cornering.
2) the temperature control on the heater seems very stiff and only twists through about 45 degress instead of the 90 degrees indicated on the dial, is this normal?
3) i am sure the heater mod has been done on my car but on my 10 mile drive home last night i struggled to get any hot air out. Is it normal for it too take so long before puting a bit of heat out?

1) Turbo ones are fine but the N/A fuel level is known to be a bit random.
2) Chances are the lever that moves the airbox flap is a bit seized, WD40 should help.
3) The bottom line with the VX220 is the heaters are crap. Removing the box, cleaning the element, and re-sealing it will help but they will never be great. My heaters are as good as I've ever seen in these cars and it is moderately warm with average power.
I would guess from points 2 & 3 that the flap inside your heater (which diverts the airflow through the heater matrix) is broken.

cheers, when i drove the car on sunday though the heater seemed to be working fine, definite hot air coming out, howeever on the test drive i never actually fiddled with the temperature dial to see is it worked. doh lol

It could also be the cable guide under the dash causing an obstruction - my cable has jumped off the guide so there is no adjustment at all, I have to adjust by lifting the bonnet and pulling the lever...more than likely a rubbish flap as Steve says though.
Be prepared for hot summers and cold winters and the inability to demist your windscreen!

Blimey, your a braver man than me! she has been out in it a few times, christ she even filled it up yesterday. She has even said she will contribute towards an alloy refurb as long as i keep them silver. Just as well really as im skint cos she contributed feck all to the purchase and insurance costs.
