New Astra advice please.
Discussion
Thinking about a new Astra. SRi or Elite? Never had an Astra before. The 2.0CDTi is appealing but I only do 8,000 miles a year so is it worth going for a diesel. Any advice from Astra experts appreciated. On a different note god bless those who recognise the importance of a decent female presence in their showroom. My tongue hit the floor when I seen how hot the sales girl is. Schwing!
Well I know loads about the Astra H but not the new Astra.
However, in terms of the Petrol Vs Diesel debate I think it was said that you would need to be doing about 15,000 miles a year for 3 years to offset the difference in the extra cost for the diesel against the savings on mileage etc. Obviously this gap will be a lot smaller if you rag the petrol around, but that is the general theory, so in your case it may be cheaper to go for the Petrol because you would not make back the extra cost for the car, unless you plan on keeping it for a long time.
Diesels always keep their value a little better though so its worth bearing this in mind too if your looking to make it a good investment for a deposit on another car in a few years.
The old Astra was bloody brilliant and a very pretty car. The new ones have grown on me too and look just as stunning. Although some people will have the badge snobbery, I think there are definatly worse places to put your money and you get a lot of decent car with your cash with these.

Sorry for late reply.....decided to take a break in the States.Im considering a used one now. Actually prefer the drive after testing both of them. And of course the price has something to do with it. Its got to be the 150 SRi for me I think. Your advice has been very helpful. Unfortunately hot bird was busy when i got there so i ended up with a dodgy carsalesman. Still i got a good look and some killer smiles! I may need to have a few further test drives. I did see a wedding ring though. :-(
