just wondering if £650 to tighten a timing belt on a corsa is reasonable? Personaly i think its a bloody rip off. If only I had the experience of fixing it myself. mad

How to get the experience

Yes, £650 sounds extortionate.

It's not that, its that im not wanting to make the problem worse than it already is by mucking it up lol (its a 2001 corsa btw)

At £15 for a Haynes manual, is it not worth buying one to see how hard the job is rather than just admitting defeat and putting the car into a garage?

Spending £15 for a possible saving of £650 sounds good to me.

Already have a Haynes manual. It's the point that id only do the small jobs on the car. never anything as big as this. Especially when its apparantly a 6 hour job.

If it's a 1.2, then it should be covered under a recall. My 1.2 (Z12XE) 2004 corsa had the timing chain and tensioners replaced under a recall shortly after I bought it brand new. Think it was late summer 2004 the recall came out.

Any with the Z12XE engine, I believe. Worth checking with your local Vx dealer.
