Hi, I'm a first timer to all this so please bare with me! I have a 2004 Vectra Design Estate with 117 k on the clock, it's an ex-co car, my partners, fully serviced etc etc which i've had for the last 4 years. Recently i've had nothing but problems with it, the 'spanner' light has been on more than off, then the engine management light has been on then off etc. It's been 'plugged in' and the code came up for the particulate filter. I've read about the dreaded particulate filter and as I only do 14 miles a day on local roads thought it must be this that was getting clogged up so took it down the motorway for a good blast, on dealers advice, 3000rpm in 4th gear for half an hour and it was a different car. Since then the lights have been off and on again, it's had the EGR valve cleaned, it's been down the M18 and back a few times and seemed much better. However, now it's decided to take on the power of a snail when you pull away until the turbo cuts in at about 2000-2500 rpm, frankly it's dangerous because it has no acceleration at low revs. Non of the lights have been on for a while so have no clue of what it could be. Has anyone any ideas? Someone's mentioned it could be the vacuum pump. Would be grateful of any pointers because it's extremely annoying.

It's either the EGR valve again, or it'll be the rods on top of the swirls has detached itself. Take the cover off, look for a metal rod that should connect to what looks like a series of motors buried into the manifold. Reattach it if it's off.

If another clean of the EGR doesn't work, it's goosed and will need a new one.

Cheers for that. If anyone else has any further ideas or anything else I could look for please let me know. Will get my other half to get it in bits and have a look!

Code P0400 will be the EGR valve needed and (IIRC) P2279 will be the inlet manifold where the swirl valve rod has fallen off - it will continue to fall off until the inlet manifold is completely replaced.
