Hi, I'm looking at a V6 Omega on ebay. The seller says that the oil cooler is leaking into the coolant causing it to over heat. Can anyone tell me if this is an easy fix and roughly how much it would cost.

Sounds more like a head gasket problem to me, walk (or better still run) away.

Yeah, I was hoping it wouldn't be. The car is too far away for me to go take a peek at though.

I sent the guy a message asking if he's had a quote to fix it and got no reply yet.

Thats a known fault on he V6 mate. The coolers are around £100. They sit under the inlets down in the 'V' of the engine. If the cooler has gone there will be lots of oil in the header tank. Bit of a messy job and can be done if your handy with spanners. Flushing the system is a must.

So not too bad then. Only problem is I don't have a drive or a garage. Could do it at a mate's though.

The fact that he's not bothered replying has put me off a bit though.

Done a few of those coolers.

When they fail the cooling system does get gunged up very quickly, If they arnt changed pretty soon after they fail the rad and heater matrix all get blocked and its a pain to fluch out. Coolers not expensive at £100 ish but if you cant flush all the gunk out, then its a new rad and heater matix and thats a big job and big money. + if its been overheating, how hot did he get it, may have damaged the engine also. I wouldnt bother to be honest, unless its a free car.
