Vauhall 2.2 diesel engine problem, can you help
Discussion
Hi guys
My Dad has a very nice 2.2 D Signum with an annoying problem which may be ecu linked. It's a 2004 with some 90k on the clock and for most of the time it runs very nicely, however there is an intermitant fault which shuts down the engine to a rough tick-over. This happens without warning and randomly, the accelerator goes life-less and leaves the engine to tick-over in a lumpy fashion.
It all runs perfectly once the car has been switched off and re-started with the fault not returning for a few days, this has happened on short trips and long journeys and totally without pattern. Can be alarming in the outside lane, or when pulling his caravan (please don't hold that against him..)
The car has been on the local dealers test equipment and the fault is logged, but all they say is that it's ecu related and it could be one of two ecu's at fault. They quoted £1,500 or possibly £2,500 for a replacement but couldn't offer any guidance that this would sort the problem.
Firstly, has anybody else had a similar problem?
Secondly, is there an easy fix to try before giving speculative cash to the dealer?
Cheers
Paul

Your best bet is to get yourself over to the Vectra-C / Signum owners club forums and ask the same question in there:

I've had lots of good advice from there in the past, and there's a fair bit of technical information kicking about in some of the forums as well...
