Off the wall suggestion, the 2.5 litre V6 from a Cavalier / Calibra will drop in.....

Basically, any other Vx lump from a similar age car will go, it depends how outrageous / sensible you want to be. Like you say, Redtops are common, C20SEH, can go - 130 bhp and pretty torquey. World's your lobster!

Obviously, you still want the V6 though!!!

Performance would be pretty good, 170 bhp as standard, Handling...... Bg heavy V6 in a Corsa, Interesting would probably cover it, beat a Saxo? Hell yeah!

Be better to keep the 2.0 box, clutch and flywheel, you'd need new mounts too.

As for how difficult, not sure. Probably best to get the Donor car and transfer the loom etc accross.

A V6 would be nose heavy. The 20XE sounds like a much better bet, even if it may set you back a few quid. Tried and tested lump.

The other option is a X16XE and having that 'done up'. A mate used to have a Corsa Sport that he took to Courtenay, threw a good £1500 at for 160BHP and did fly. However it was still slower than my standard Astra GTE 16v hence isn't worth the outlay IMO.

Buy a whole car as scrap and work from there. I bought and stripped a Calibra 16v a few years ago. Bought for £175 with rear damage but everything else was sweet as a nut and the engine is still going today.

get an X20XEV

plenty about, relatively cheap, and as they produced them them up until 2000 you have a better chance of finding a lower mileage, reliable example.

Then spend the rest of your budget making it handle and stop properly.

thanks everyone for the info i did think about the weight issue with the v6 ive got a set of 2litre brakes of a friend just got to pick them up also gonna have the rears converted to disc on the handling side it has full gmax allround so should handle ok with either engine in well i hope so lol!! someone suggested a 2litre 8v they said it should be more reliable than a redtop just dont know where to start engine wise pretty much have everything else sorted though thanks!!

I was told that you have to chop part of the bulkhead away to fit a red top v6 in corsa b..
Dont know if its true like...

DO you know the best way to do this is to go and buy one already done...There are loads going cheap, professional conversions too...save a whole load of hassle and its ready to drive

Forget the X20XEV. It isn't a patch on the 20XE. If you are going to the effort, do it properly.

As for buying ready done cars, most of them have either been thrashed to within an inch of their life and show it, are kitted in Kingdom Development bodykits and paintjobs which cost more than the owners annual income or very very overpriced. Buy carefully.
