How much power can you extract from an Astra VXR?

hi guys, just wondered if anyone can shed any ligth on this? guy round my way is claiming 650bhp fromhis Astra VXR. i smell serious bulls*it! he's claiming he's spent £20,000 on it etc. Just onwdering if that much powers even possible from the block? Is he chatting complete rubbish or is thta much power possible? Anyone know just for reference the most power extracted from that engine currently? and if it is possible, what's needed to do it?

Certainly possible if you've got the budget available..........

As to why you'd want that through the front wheels on a road car is another matter !!




I wouldn't bother asking on the VXR as all they know is what "their tuner" has told em......and then it ends up in an un-educated slanging match

Outcome 609PS and 600Nm at 7300U/min at 6000U/min (nmax = 8500rpm!)

I understand he's building a drag Astra VXR atm. I don't think anyone in the UK is doing similar in regards to that sort of power.

hmm i think it's complete rubbish then. He claims Courtnay Sport did it aswell, if that makes any difference. The thing is he races cars as a hobby so must know he's a complete liar! He's a friend of a friend, always seems to have an excuse when he hears i'm about in the Audi and up for a blat though!

Well there is a corsa c/opel barina 1.8 turbo in Australia and its running 580bhp...and its beaten an enzo in a 1/4 mile dash..this is totally built from scratch,it started life as a 123bhp z18xe lump and every single part has been modded.........so I would say it is possible..(without NOS)

I personally would never spend that on a vxr, I rather have a 600brake evo, at least you can semi get the power down on the tarmac lol
