Own a 2003 Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 (sorry) that has covered 153K miles with full dealer history.

Car runs perfectly, but the oil consumption is ridiculous. Litre every 750 miles or so. Now this is the weird bit. No obvious oil leaks, no oil on drive, got my father to check for smoke on a journey of 50 miles following me from cold (nothing reported).

So any ideas what is happening as I can't believe the fairies are taking it, or that this is a unique problem.

My 1.8VVT drank that with 16k on the clock. Two rebuilds later under warranty I gave up on the thing and traded it in.

150K+ you're doing well if that's the only problem you're having.

Daughters 03 Vectra 1.8 does this at 67k miles. It started to use oil suddenly, as above no smoke or leaks. I am reliably informed that a set of rings will cure the problem. The mystery therefore is why no smoke.

My 1.8 zafira supps a litre of fuel every thousand miles. It doesn't smoke or leak. Had it checked out by a vauxhall dealership - was told it's perfectly normal with these engines and not to worry about it - so I don't! (It's a 2000W with 95k on the clock). Once it starts smoking I'll throw it away.
