When should it be changed?

Im currently at 52,000 miles. The car requires its first MOT by 12/10/2009 and will also be due another service then too. I expect to be at 65,000 miles by then - would this be a good time to change it out?

Ive heard rumours it should be changed before 100,000 miles?

Thanks,

Matt.

100k is the recommended interval but if it were me i would do it at 70k ish, but also do the water pump and tensioners at the same time.

Cheers Gaz.

I am at 63,000 now and i am due a service at 67,000 so will get it done then. Any idea what cost i would be looking at for the timing belt and water pump?

Cheers,

Matt.

Total job inc the service would come to less than £500 depending on weather its just the basic service or the big one.

I always recommend a maximum of 5 years or 60k, whichever comes first. The consequences of a belt breaking is terminal for the engine, hence a few hundred now and then is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
