0 - 60
n/a 5.6s turbo 4.7s

Not sure how accurate those figures are but I don't think they're that far out.

The figure's don't do it justice. The N/A is quick but the turbo is in a different league. The mid-range shove is incredible! Coming from a TVR that's a big compliment. The N/A felt a bit slower than the wedge, the turbo killed it.

I've driven an Elise 135R and found it pretty gutless but like it says above, driving the VX Turbo is like driving a big-engined car, loads of torque in every gear and power on demand without the rowing.

Pity about the reliability:

My mate bought an ex-demonstrator and the radiator went. Roof leaks a lot and now the induction system has "blown up" according to him.

The vx's 2.2 and 2.0 turbo units should be near unburstable - the 2.2 has been tested to 285bhp before it imploded Some people have had problems with the air mass meter on turbos, usually with Viper/BMC induction kits letting in water. They are also covered with a 3 yr Vauxhall warrenty for the radiator.... And lets not forget, they are still hand assembled next to Elises, so a leaky roof is more than fixable with a screw driver

Nothing major as it turned out but the car has spent more time in the dealers than it has on the road and that's pretty unacceptable, no matter who makes the car.

A car that doesn't work is totally useless.

Hope you've pointed your mate in the direction of www.vx220.org.uk . Very handy, and there's loads of advice available on stopping leaks, etc, in the forums. Like TVRs - use fabsil on the fabric roof. If the water's getting in elsewhere, the windows can be adjusted to form a better seal...
