I'm thinking of getting my 1.6 Astra Mk5 chipped and with a exhaust (full) system and a heavy induction kit. hes guaranteed me a min of 15HP and a noticeable difference. is it worth £1000 as he quoted me, excluding discount. i seem to think so, do you?

Fit a bigger engine. Seriously, save your money and save up for another car with a bigger engine.

agree with the above. you will not notice 15bhp after the first drive (if you even notice it at all) ripping the back seats and carpet out and throwing away the spare tyre would probably have the same effect on 0-60 times but cost nothing...

much better off buying a new car. I've spent £££ making cars go faster and most of the time it is pointless. Spending a grand on several tuition days would be much more worthwhile (its a cliche but true)

surely if he fits a vxr engine he will be upgrading the brakes and suspension to suit.

vx dont sneer at sight of modification, they actually have their own vauxhall vxr centres with manufacturer approved upgrades.

surely the 3 door astra chassis is the same across all variations of the model too?

and if he was to change the engine etc then that would involve changing the exhaust, manifold, injectors, cat and ecu etc... which are designed for that sort of power.

im not saying that its the best thing to do as the for theg price of the full conversion a the sxi could be chopped in and a vxr could probably be purchased, but some of the things in your statement just dont ring true.

Dblias do a turbo kit for the 1.6 engine mate. Contact regal autosport. They will be able to talk more about it. IIRC the 1.6T SRi engine is 180-189bhp (dependant on unit) so you should hopefully be looking for around that sort of output. The kit they provide should come with the Flowmaster intake system as well.

Further more, get yourself some 1144 Mintex Pads, Cooler running Sparks, EiBach Sportlines and a Whiteline RARB. Better Power, Better Brakes, Better Handling. Better car and more fun.

Regards

I have to agree with this one. Blowing money tuning an NA 1.6 will only end in tears, money for not much gain. Hang off, save pennies and move up.
