[quote]it's hard enough squeezing more power out of the VXR

Sorry mate, i don't agree with that comment. It's easy to get the power out of the LEH engine. Just the mapping thats hard lol.

Induction systems on N/A cars of low CC can be good dependant on how they are installed. Vauxhall engine units generally suffer from bad heatsoak (The Z20LEH is incredibly prone to temperature) and therefore you need to minimise heatsoak to the filter and aim for getting as much cold air as possible.

If you choose the K&N 57i route, get some manifold wrap to wrap the CAI tubing with. That will help fend off the heat. Also aim for a place above the water line and away from the engine. I'd suggest the only real location is behind the lower grille. You might need a water sock for winter, and remember the filter is low for fording. Or just stay away from fords lol.

Best bet is to go for a panel filter. It's cheap and effective when paired with derestricting your airbox by removing the card tubes from the lid and base of the box.

For more efficient power management and running i'd suggest a set of cooler running plugs, a panel filter and derestricted airbox and a decent manifold back exhaust. Just remember, you still might not get much power increase, but the vehicle should be freer revving and more eager to pull.

James i think you were just unlucky. With a courtenays sport remap and a front pipe my car was making 271bhp and 312lb/f of torque. These engines seem to really vary. My mates car with the same map and front pipe gives 265 and 280lb/f.
