astra vxr good or bad?
Discussion
Fast, understeery, woeful rear visability, excellent brakes.
Personally, despite having had 4 Astras before, I couldn't get on with the Astra Sporthatch at all, traded mine in for a 1.8 Vectra.
If I were going for a car in that class, I'd be looking at the Focus ST or Mazda 3 MPS, or even an imported Civic Type-R (the saloon type).

Try logging on to www.vxronline.co.uk and do a search. Great website with some friendly people on there.
Astra VXR...
Quick as standard in a straight line.
They do understeer a fair bit out of the box, but this is easily rectified with a rear anti roll bar (less than £200).
It does torque steer, but nowhere near as bad as Clarkson goes on about.
If you are over 6 feet tall, make sure you can get a decent driving position, I've heard of people not getting on with them because of this.
The handling is slightly better if you stick with the 18" wheel option - although I've got 19's and it's still good.
If you are into tuning, you can only get around 300BHP(ish) on the standard turbo (This stage is full exhaust, intercooler and remap) - much more than this and the tiny little turbo doesn't like it.
Equipment levels as standard are quite poor though. Cruise, Climate control, Xenon AFL headlights, bluetooth, auto lights/wipers/dimming mirror, satnav, folding mirrors are all options (as well as some I'm sure I've forgotten)
I'm well chuffed with mine, and much as I rate the focus, I would stick with the astra (just personal preference though!)
