Coming down onto the M27 at Hedge End in the Sagaris last night and there was a chap in a silver VX220 with a big GT-style wing on the back, and by mutual unspoken agreement we both dropped the hammer for a bit of a spurt.

Blimey! That thing was a bit nippy. Neither of us pulled away from each other and then suddenly we were going a little too fast for entry onto the motorway and I had to brake quite hard not to run into the back of a slower vehicle in front of me. Oops. eek

We parted at the Eastleigh turn-off with him giving a cheery wave.

Anyone from here?

Well, I could make some excuse about him being on boost and me off cam, but I won't pretend that it wasn't a seriously rapid little car. smile

So could I wink

Seriously, though, I think you were off-cam and I was off-boost, I wasn't expecting you to go for it after your very sedate departure from the traffic lights!

Obviously not to say that if we tried again the results would be the same. Plus I suspect you were rapidly reaching the point where you'd have started to leave me for dead, if we hadn't run out of road -- the VX isn't the most aerodynamic of cars even without the wing on the back.

You have no idea how hard I had to brake to avoid running into the car in front. hehe

On paper (for whatever that counts for) the Sag is 0-60 in 3.7s and 0-100 in 8.6s. So I suspect we'd be close up to 60 and beyond (I'd imagine you'd be similar, maybe a tenth or two slower on paper) but once the speeds increased I'd have the edge. But that doesn't alter the fact that you are seriously swift in that little VX.

Ha ha. I was just letting you get alongside. As I dropped it in 2nd and you completely failed to fall behind I did think "oh yes? And what have we here then?" hehe
The grin on your face as I stole a millisecond glance, and the same on mine, confirmed we were two petrolheads having fun rather than a rivalry though. smile
