vx220 non turbo exhaust
Discussion
is it a n/a or turbo vx?
your really not going to get a great deal more power from the the n/a with out spending serious cash. Prob best just getting a back box, plenty availible, have a search on www.vx220.org.uk
If its a turbo then you can get about an extra 20bhp from a full system, blueflame do a cheaper system, miltek/larini seem to be what most people go for (i have a miltek on mine)

You've got a few options but is he looking for a full system or just the cat-back?
I've got a Piper cat-back on mine and it's definitely louder than OEM but not too loud.
Other alternatives are, as Joe says a Milltek or a Larini. Another one is 2bular (made by a one-man band to very high standards) - a lot of the Elise/Exige boys have one and rate them highly. The good thing about these is that you can specify the size of the can, thus controlling the volume.
Final option is a VSE (Vauxhall Sports Exhaust) - stricly speaking, these were for track-use only but several people have them on their road cars. They are very loud, so maybe not what your frined is looking for.
HTH
Edit - just read your original post again and saw that he is after more power. As Joe pointed out, you'll need an awful lot more than an exhaust to get more power out of an NA - think £££££

an extra 15- 20bhp is about right from a full exhaust system on a turbo
Milltek (200cell) for example
"The Milltek Stainless Steel System uses 63.5mm diameter pipe work throughout. The pre-cat is removed as it is very restrictive and as the car no longer requires this once it is registered a straight through downpipe is used in its place. The "OE" main cat is replaced with an HJS 200 cell sports cat and a sports tailbox with twin 75mm tail pipes completes the system finished off with the VXR logo, which is etched onto the upper tailpipe. The system has a weight saving of 6 kg with a track friendly noise level of 95db's, gives an average power increase of 12-18 bhp and sounds truely awesome. For maximum performance gains on a standard or modified VXT/VXR we recommend that a full system with Hi-Flow cat is fitted."
Another example, although on a astra vxr http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/tuning/Does_the...
