I cant seems to get a straight ansa from my local vx dealer. Was there a recall on vectra autos.Mine is a 2.2 vectra c 2003 auto and i have been informed they suffer from serious water in the gearbox problems.A new box i have been told is 3.5k gulp!! .Water seems to get in through the radiator and gearbog oil stabiliser pipe thingy. They told me the recall is £141 to change some sort of breather!!! but i missed the end of september deadline which is handy. That doesnt sound like a cure to me.Any vx technicians on here speak in plain english terms for me please please.
Hi there
There are two kind of recalls, safety recalls and non safety related recalls.
The safety recalls can go as far as 2099 on any vehicle, on the non safety related ones there is a cut off date.
That means if you do not have your vehicle serviced or repaired by a Vauxhall dealer (who will check for open recalls on your vehicle when your vehicle in) you might miss out on the recall.
Even on vehicles that are not in production new recalls are created, for the safety recalls the customer will receive a letter to bring their vehicle in, if the vehicle is sold on or scrapped and the owner can not be traced the dealer will put a claim in at GM for the recall but will claim "customer not reachable" the recall will get recorded in the vehicle history and can only be recorded once.
There are two on the gearboxes concerning water or coolant in gearbox oil, the other one is in an automatic and can exceed 6000 pound in cost to have it replaced.
It pays to bring your vehicle to a dealer once in a while.
I have worked a few years in warranties for GM and have seen a few come past, I have also worked for VW in warranties and must say that GM is much more lenient toward customers than VW

Thankyou for your help! i have been advised to simply change the radiator.Im concerned that the new rad will have the same fault as my one. local dealer seems to say he has never had any problems.I find that unbelievable as the vx forums do say there is a problem. So did i miss the deadline was there a recall i missed , i was lucky enough to be given vx head offices number but they said the breather was for the vectra b .So that says my local dealer doesnt now what hes talking about.I thought the easiest and cheapest thing to do was to add a seperate cooler as if i was going to tow something.Years ago i had one on a drag car .I have searched high and low for an auto gearbox oil cooler but most people look at my like im from another planet. What would you suggest in my position? regards martin
mine recently went. luckily the warranty covered it. but there wasnt much change from £2k Apart from rebuilding the box. the torque converter was replaced, valve body rebuilt and a new rad/cooler.
the later rad/cooler had a new design to correct the seal failure that was mentioned in the recall.
no problems since.
