I will be doing approx 24,000 motorway miles per year and want a cheap(ish) car in which to do this as I may be moving abroad soon and will not be able to take car with me (do not want to but brand new and face huge depreciation!). I want to spend less than 5K and thought one of these may be a good idea. I have a few questions:

1. What is fuel economy like - all motorways approx 100 miles per day.
2. What is the reported/actual reliability?
3. Is there a particular spec to go for - what did you wish you had ticked for options/regreted?
4. I want a manual car - is there much difference over the automatic?
5. What is the cost of servicing?
6. I imagine I will be able to buy a sub 60,000 mile example on an 04/54?

Thanks for your help and look forward to any discussion.

May as well buy a big engine petrol of you are wanting 3.0 diesel. Expect 300-350 miles from a tank. Go for the Elite spec with leather and toys. Nowt wrong with an autobox - uses a little (not too much more) fuel and a full service at an indy will be around £800. Try to get a 55 plate onwards (facelift model and looks better).
