Hi mate

I would go for the 150 bhp 1.9cdti

Roughly same MPG and much better to drive.

i have same engine and spec in the sporthatch, does the job for me, fast enough and decent on fuel - 520 miles per tank. I got it late ddecember on 7K now done 23K and still going strong. Just starting to think of getting it mapped to 130 odd bhp and afew more nm of torque using the diesel tuning mod.

Not much, it just quickens the throttle response so you get full throttle when you've only pushed the pedal down 3/4 of the way.

More than buying a 150CDTI in the first place when you consider the impact to insurance & the actual mapping cost.

When I had a test drive he said -chav trader - it gives you more BHP.

I said Really. Lets try it. 30mph 4th gear foot to the floor up to 50mph. The tried the same with the sport button - no different/impossible to tell any difference.
He then said it sharpens up the steering & suspension. Really test tried again no difference to note - he finally said it takes a while to notice the difference,,,, so pointless.

I think the car needs the electronic pack for the suspension and/or steering to tighten up. A standard SRi won't have the gizmos like the electronically adjustable shocks, etc.

If it's got the sports button, it has the necessary electronics to make the changes.

No, it's not massively different, the throttle response is noticeably sharper but the suspension change is much more subtle.

Simply, the dampers are fluid filled, not gas filled (and VERY expensive to replace). The fluid is filled with metallic particles. When you press the sport button, a current is passed through the damper which attracts the particles to the walls, effectively creating less room inside the damper. The same volume of fluid in what is effectively a smaller space makes them very slightly firmer.

I can't tell either biggrin
