Improving induction on Omega V6...
Discussion
I'm looking at improving the intake of air on my Omega 3 litre, but I don't want to buy induction kits (unless very cheap). The standard intake has always looked poorly designed to me, it looks as if a length of hose leading from the offside grill by the fog-light would be a much more direct and efficient route to the airbox......
I'm thinking of using a length of hose from the grill, enlarging the airbox intake, and maybe using an aftermarket filter? I'm just looking at better pickup from lower revs (autobox), and if it sounds better then that's a bonus. I've had a good old look on omegaowners and mig, there's not a massive amount of info on there.
I should add that the car has a standard exhaust, so I realize that will limit things.
Any advice on pikey cheap mods much appreciated!!!!

Hmmmmm. Managed to get the search function on omegaowners going properly. It seems that the oil from aftermarket filters can screw up the MAF sensor. This appears to be the case even for simple panel filters. However, I've read up on calibra forums that it's a recommended mod for their 2.5 engine.....
I had a play around yesterday and ripped out the old tubing leading to the box. I've put a big cold air feed (originally from my Elise) from the front offside grill straight up to the airbox, there are no twists or turns so it's going straight in.
I've still got the cheap paper filter I put in there six months ago, but my mate has offered up his cheap 'max power' cone filter if I want it.....
Soooooooo........I'm gonna fit the cone filter, BUT, place it within the existing box. This combined with the cold air feed may make a difference. If it doesn't, what the hell, I haven't spent a penny (unless the MAF screws up!)
And if I want to sound chavtastic, well I can just leave the lid off the airbox! I will report back when it's all done.....

Unlikely the cone filter will sit in the airbox mate. A cold air feed to the airbox with a panel filter will keep the heat down. The VX V6 runs quite hot.Ive got a Vectra but it has the 3.2 and i run K&N in a modified box, it has a 100mm inlet and have run a pipe to the side of the headlight. This is going to be changed soon to tak air from inside the RHS wing.
