Vectra V6 issues?
Discussion
When looking to buy one some of the problems I came across were:
creamy oil/water
knocking rear bushes (all vectra B's)
Bad fuel economy!!
I had to replace the steering rack on the GSI I ended up buying but dont think thats a common problem.
MG ZT's might be worth a look at too..

Thats way better than the 318iS then (hardly gets over 30mpg). Not half bad at all. vectra V6 back in the game then.
Anything worth looking at on the spec? Air con, traction control, electrics?

Pm me mate, I can give you more info. One drawback to the 2.6 was a lack of a TC off button, altho www.vectra-sport.com has info on how to fit one.- edit*

TBH mate I wouldn't have anything other than a V6. You'll go on Vectra Sport and people will argue that the 2.0 is nearly as fast but the V6 is just nicer, sounds better, more torque means less frantic progress.
Altho if you follow all the threads on there that say that engine x is basically as engine y you get a logical chain that says that the 1.6 is as fast as the 2.5!
If your budget can cover it, and you can find a good unmolested one, get a facelift, post-T-reg 2.5 GSI. Even Evo rated it, it really was far better than you'd imagine a Vectra could be.
There really aren't any major issues with the V6, providing it's had a decent service life, cambelt changed and all that, it should go on for ever. And it's one engine that really benefits from some induction mods, the more air the better for these.
They can be a little understeery, but they are a largish car, not a hot hatch. Warped front discs can be a problem sometimes, if they're not allowed to bed in proper. Other than that not much goes wrong on them.

just reading this thread, and thought i would take the opportunity to say, firstly i have a vectra gsi v6,and yes they can be juicy,BUT, it certainly isnt as bad as the lexus is200 that i owned before it! i can honestly say that on a run i can get mid 30'S TO 40 MPG out of it,and it pulls like a train.
i had a 2.0 sri vectra too,and that had the same consumption, due to the gear ratios and ecu programming.
secondly, the gsi is up for sale,if you are interested at all.
its a model year 2000,so it is the facelifted vectra, with all the usual gsi bits and bobs.

Ta for that - good to know they can be reasonably frugal, but open up the taps ...
Had another look at the SRi estate today - its a mess. When you close the doors theres a major rattle, determined it was caused by the roof flexing just above B pillars, which definitely doesn't seem right.
But I've seen another one going, 99T, fairly high mileage (139k), but as long as its had the various belt changes done regularly it should be okay.
Plus its been converted to run LPG, nice saving on the pocket until the government decide to start taxing that more ....
But I do have mild concern about the rear seat space, it could be fairly tight for two booster seats and a baby seat?

My mate was running my V6 hatch back and fwd to work for a while and using it with kids with boosters. He loved it but though it would be too costly on fuel so bought a 2.2 petrol. For the same run my 2.5 was better on fuel than his 2.2. I used to see 28 to 33 on country roads and if you sat at 80ish on the m/way you could see 35/39.
