1.9 150 bhp diesel engine with DPF
Discussion
Hi All,
I was wondering if any of you have had any problems with the 1.9 150bhp diesel engine, as fitted to the Astra twintop. Its the Fiat sourced common rail diesel engine with DPF.
I'm just asking as the in-laws had their previous Astra replaced by Vauxhall as they were unable to fix it, the new one has now suffered the same problem. Seemingly the Diesel Particulate Filter needs to re-generate otherwise it clogs up and needs resetting by a dealership, but the car is being used according to the manufacturers instructions, and is still not right!!
Wondering if they are just very unlucky or whether its a much more widespread problem?
TIA,
Paul

Vx released a software update about 9 months ago which included new DPF regeneration parameters. With the most recent software, pretty much all of the DPF issues have now been ironed out.
Basically instead of burning every 10,000 miles at speeds over 70mph, it should now burn every 3,000 at speeds over 30mph.
The 1.9 CDTi engine is prone to all sorts of glitches though, same as most common rail diesels - EGR, turbo, and also has very fragile inlet manifold.

Thanks Parapaul, the problem they keep having is that it goes in to Limp Home mode, they take it to a dealer, the dealer "fixes" it and then it goes again. Its still in getting fixed for the most recent problem, but when the father in law went to pick it up, it died on the way home from the dealership. He took it straight back, they "fixed" it again, and it died again on the same day on the way home, so as you can imagine he's getting royally pissed off about it!!!
The dealership have now claimed that its the weather thats causing it . Classic excuse that
