Very reasonable cars. If you are after diesel go for the 1.9 or one of the bigger petrol engines. SRI/SXI are the ones to go for.

A very nice car, but then of course I am biased.

What sort of thing are you looking for? I will help as much as possible.

I am considering SRi model - not sure if I should go for petrol or diesel (150bhp version look good)

Ok, well that all depends really. I'll give you some things to consider...

\\Engine Choice

The 1.9CDTi (from Fiat) produces 150bhp, but with a remap or tuning box (£200) you can see 195bhp and around 300lb/ft torque.
MPG is around 40-45 on average.

The 1.8 VVT produces 140bhp, but being NA cannot be tuned up very easily.
MPG is around 35-40 on average.

The 2.0T produces 170bhp in the Sporthatch, and can be tuned to 235bhp and 270lb/ft torque with a remap (safely, too). It's a similar engine to that in the Astra VXR, with a smaller turbo, IC, and some other little bits.
MPG is around 22-27 on average.

The 1.6T (which is what I have) produces 180bhp, but is obviously lighter than any of the others. It can be tuned to around 210bhp (peak increase around 55bhp mid range), with 230lb/ft torque.
MPG is around 32-37 on average.

\\Version Choice

You'll pretty much want the SRi I'd imagine. It has the nice visible sports exhaust, better alloys, and better suspension. The Design doesn't have the nice exhaust, but has stuff like half leather and the sight and light pack etc.

You might want to consider the XP kit (Exterior Pack) on the SRi, although it does come at quite a price premium. You would possibly (in most cases) be better off retro-fitting it.

If you want Sat Nav, get one with it, as you can't retrofit it. Cruise Control doesn't matter, as you can retro-fit that VERY easily.

To be honest, the only reason I chose the 1.6T was that it wasn't far off the 1.9CDTi MPG-wise (well, about 10mpg or so probably) and I don't like the sound of diesels personally. They all have their good points, although I would personally consider the 1.8 to be the least desirable (although you don't have a turbo to consider I suppose, for cooling it down etc).
