Astra Van,

If you have the same engine as me...120 BHP CDTi in the Vectra, I got a 888 map thats now pushing 170BHP and 308 lbft Torque.

Since then I de-restricted the airbox and added a K&N filter

It looks as if I will be going diesel, I need to as I do 25k a year. I am pondering a Vectra Sri 150, and a remap. Does it make it smokier, and what's the mpg like compared to before?

Cheers

I'm still getting 43mpg when I play. I have had high 60s when in Specs zones. It may be a little worse but not much.

I doesn't smoke any more than normal. A 150 remapped can get you 180-200BHP

I tried the Astra Sri 1.9 CDTI 120 Exterior pack and thought it was a really good car - pretty nippy and would imagine that the 150bhp is more than enought for most people.

Well the 5 door Hatch 1.9 CDTI Sri 120 exterior pack was very good - so mucvh so that I had asked for a test drive in the 150 & assumed that this was the car I was testing only to be told actually I had been driving the 120bhp.

Its pretty smooth and was good on the economy with me driving it on the rails. The sales rep made a lot of talk on the sport button but I tried it switching it on and off with foot to the floor and when going up steep hills and cornering didnt notice a thing. Th traction control wasnt the best and it did squirm /torque steer but not too bad. It felt much quicker than the GT TDI 140 I had driven the day earlier.

Note the 1.7 CDTI is supposed to be pretty poor and is best avoided in fact the 1.3 CDTI is better in 88bhp nmode than the 100hp 1.7 (very old engine design).

Well he said, quicken the steering, stiffen the suspension and make the engine more urgent - although no more power. Well I guess with the engine you need to see the engine graphs from VX brochure in reality to see if there is any change/move of the torque/power.

Personally I dont think it did anything and then he said when he first drove it he felt the same but after quite a few miles in it he could - well be that as it may its still a very good car, downside is they drop in value like a lead balloon

I had a 1.7 Astra Diesel before my 120(ish) Vectra.

The step up from the 1.7 is plain to see. The 150 is better again, especially when your accelorating into a gap on the motorway. The 120 is generally an 8v engine and has more torque than the 150.

I have a 888 Map and a mate has a 150 with a 888 map.

He has 187 BHP to my 170, butI have 308 lb ft torque to his 280 ish.

As for smoke, If I really boot it from the line yes it smokes as all diesels would. but every day driving and "normal" acceloration, its fine.

I may be getting an 08 or 58 Vectra 120...First thing I'll do is map it with either the 888 or BSR remaps. For £500 the 888 give better figures, but the BSR can be downloaded and uploaded by the owner (me) whenever I want. Bit like taking a tuning box out for a service or warranty work.

888 Also say their map won't damage the engine and they are a VX garage!

I am a member of Vectar-c.com and have been for two years. With over 5000 members, I can't remember hearing of dropped valves in that time.

What - 2 years and zero depreciation! Rubbish. If that were the case then PCP's would have their GFV priced accordingly + looking at Autotrader what you say seems to be the total opposite to reality

Please provide proof that you cannot buy a 3 year old Sri 1.9 cdti 120/150 for £7k? Remember 3 years prior to this list price is £18-19k thats a massive drop and only supper leggy VW Golf GT TDI 140's get as low as £8-9k in the same time frame & they are a little cheaper list.

Firstly, I misread your post hence my reply refering to Valves!!!

Secondly, if you know the right people, you can have a new Vectra for two years and not loose a great deal. To Joe bloggs they're 18k new....not to me. So yes going by auto trader prices, after two years I am just starting to loose out.

Ok purely for numbers here lets say the list price is £20k no actually the drive the deal price is £20k and its list price is £24k. Now after 3 years that car will be worth around £6k

How much could you buy it for?

I got over 50% off the new price. Not the drive away price as all the extras are included. The car is nearly 2 so looking around it seams it would go for around 8K-9k and is in mint condition. If I sell up now I will lose 500-1K.

I'm just fortunate to have an in-law who buys cars by the hundred and passes his discounts on to me.
