Key for a Corsa

I am having a lot of difficulty getting a replacement key for a 1.2L Corsa lite. The old one broke. I am told they need to be reprogrammed which means I have to have bits of the old one to start even if I could get a replacement - also told they have to be "sent away for" - but where to ? Can't I just wonder in and buy one? How do the "hot wirers' manage? Any help appreciated.

Have you actually been to a main dealer for it? If so it seems strange that they can't get one, even if it does have to come from the factory.

Yes - it is a main dealer who has ordered one - its the time and effort that I am trying to short circuit - been waiting for over a week now! I had hoped I would be able to buy one "off the shelf" - obviously not.
