Hi All
I have had lotus's in the past but am looking for a bit of a toy and am attracted to the VX prices just a couple of q's if you dont mind helping me
been looking at a couple with around 40k on the clock i noticed many of these are around that mileage is this ok for a VX and about average
Whats the servicing costs like ?
The elise is very twitchy in the wet but it looks to me like the VX is more of a daily all weather drive is this correct ?
Thanks

I think VX's tend to get driven as daily drivers, rather than as weekend toys, so there are a number of quite high milers, i.e. 40k+I have had lotus's in the past but am looking for a bit of a toy and am attracted to the VX prices just a couple of q's if you dont mind helping me

A well sorted 40k car that's been driven and serviced is going to be as reliable (if not more so) than a similar age car that has had just weekend use. Unfortunately a 40k+ miler will also have more stone chips, scratches etc etc...
Servicing costs are relatively cheap, as the engines are fairly standard Vauxhall, so about the same price as an astra/cavalier. Beware of any work that requires the clam off though, as this requires some labour...
I commute about 20 miles (each way) in my VX NA every day, and havn't encountered any problems yet, although you obviously do need to be a little more careful in wet weather. The soft tops can leak, but this just requires adjustment of the windows and rubbers, something else that will have been sorted on a 40k+ miler
Why don't you come on over to www.vx220.org.uk and see if there are any suitable cars for sale You know you want one!
I'd certainly reccomend one for a whole host of reasons, but don't get one if you think it's a more practical elise, it's just got an airbag and the worst ABS ever, and is just as likely to catch you out in the wet.
I'm not saying it can't be a daily driver, just not more so than an elise.
