RE: Crazy Corsa Smashes 'Ring Record

Crazy Corsa Smashes 'Ring Record
Earns a bit of respect in the process
Praise be to the crazy goons at Opel, who’ve been hooning around the ‘ring in the new Corsa OPC (VXR to us, mind) and have become record breakers.
The pint-sized manic mini broke the record for superminis around the famous track by lapping it in a (slightly scary) 8mins 47.99seconds.
The 192bhp hatch was piloted by Manuel Reuter, an ex-Opel works driver.
Is it us, or has that given the Corsa a little more credibility?

There would still be some scroat with a bean can exhaust who think that could do it faster!
I met said scroat in March. In the wet, with 4 up in the car and a huge body kit and a mahoosive sound system. He made it to just beyond the 2km mark on what I believe was his first lap before bending his car and the armco on both sides of the track.RichBurley said:

Nope, it's still a Corsa, and therefore has no credibility!

Well, sort of. The new Corsa is supposed to be a pretty decent car.
But...WGAF about 'ring times?!? Why are manufacturers obsessing over 'ring times?!?
Does a good 'ring time make a car better to drive? Probably not, because it probably means the suspension's too stiff and it's got too much grip.
Eh, record for a *supermini*
Not really that small is it?
1223kg is a fair old lump of weight, an Evo M3 Evo has more power, about the same weight, and although ~ 12 inches longer it's about 5 inches lower and over an inch narrower...
It's an ok time for what is a stock road car out the showroom for the price brand new, but I don't really see why the 'record' means anything as the classification seems skewed imho.

If a set up that works well at the Nordschleife is too stiff for UK roads... well I'd be writing to my MP about the terrible state of 'our' roads if I were you. It's not like the 'Ring is a billiard table even by non-track standards, is it? I'm beginning to see the rationale behind running 4x4s in the UK
And yes, I'm aware your roads are that bad... it's just that over here on the continent we say 'if a car does well at the 'Ring it'll be OK everywhere'.
Footnote: This news does not make your gran's burgundy M-reg 1.2 'Trip' any faster. Even if, inspired by it, you apply a sticker of a racing circuit it's never been near in its life.
To be fair even if you have an Enzo and cover it in race track stickers your still a t*t.
Want to collect stickers? get a book.
