Astra turbo water pump (z20let)
Discussion
Bought a 52 plate astra convertable turbo a few months back for the missis and although it has only got 31k on it as its over 4 years old i decided to change the timing belt kit for piece of mind.
On removel of the belt i was surprised to find the water pump bearing was completely shot.
On my experiance with ecotec engines i know that they are known for timing belt failures but i havent come across a water pump failure at such low mileage before.
When i got the new pump from vauxhall turns out they have modified the pumps to prevent premature failure.
I was lucky as the car was making no abnormal noises so it may well have failed at any time destroying the engine.
So the moral to the story is that if you run a vauxhall no matter what miles its done its worth having it checked.
I would also like to hear if others have had this problem weather lucky or unlucky as according to the local dealer this is a very common problem across the engine range.
