VX220 Hard Roof
Discussion
Hardtops are an optional item from Vauxhall and will fit all VXs. New, they cost between £1200 and £1500 depending on if you want it colour-coded and lined as well.
A lot of people try and buy them second hand, this will cost between £450 and £650.
There are a couple of third-party manufacturers who will provide a new one for £800 to £1200 (I think, I'm a bit more vague on that).
The Elise one doesn't quite fit apparently

Try checking out www.VX220.org.uk - that's the owners forum and there is a wealth of knowledge on there.
You might also find a hardtop for sale in the for sale section.
Do search for water leaks / ingress - you should find a lot of posts on turbo seals and window alignment which will answer your questions.

I have a hardtop and keep it on all the time. I bought the VXT in spite of it being a convertible, I'm not bothered about taking the roof off.
FWIW I can notice the difference in rigidity with the hardtop fitted tightly, there's some scuttle shake and rear-view-mirror vibration with the roof off.
As to weatherproofing, the hardtop I have works well, the worst I get are a few drips on the sills when heavy rain is accompanied by strong winds (which can blow water past the seals). It doesn't leak when driving.
The additional benefit (a big deal for me) is security, slashed fabric roofs in the past have put me off soft-tops.

the hardtop definatley improves the high speed stabiliy and noise levels. Very very expensive for what it is but worth buying a car that somes with one. If your planning on driving it in winter its essential IMO as the soft top looses valuable heat. In fact in winter my car doesnt warm up at all with the softop on but can get quite cosy with the hardtop.
