The turbos are 2 litres, the NAs are all 2.2 with a standard output of about 145 IIRC.
Prices are certainly keen at this time of year, but there are a lot of ropey ones about so be prepared to travel to get the right one.
A search on www.vx220.org.uk will reveal the few common problems, but to be honest the oily bits are from an Astra coupe and are pretty bomb proof. Trim etc is flakey as are shut lines.
Best idea would be to befriend an owner on vx200.org.uk and he / she will show you the ropes.

I'd guesstimate that a *good* 02 will be a smidgeon over 11k, less if you find someone keen to sell quickly.
Good time to buy at the moment, lots on the market.

What he said. You'd be daft to pay any more than £11k for a private 02 at this time of year. Dealers might ask 12k, but haggle hard. Trade in value isn't much more than £9k, which should give you an idea on their margin.

Try finding one for those prices. You might be lucky to get a Cat D for that money. Trust me, any decent NA is going to cost £10k+. i.e. 2001 Y with 40kmiles.
I know because I spent 10 months watching the prices before I bought one in November

Agree with the above - don't expect to buy one, run it for a year and then trade against something else, you'll lose a packet.
The N/A is a good car - there is the opinion that if you want to keep the car for a few years then you'll get bored with the power and should buy a VXT instead (that's easier to tune)... equally the supercharger conversion on the 2.2 is now getting popular and is around £5k so around the same money as a reasonable VXT.
These cars cry out for mods though so keep an eye on any prospective purchase for what's been done to it. Many mods are well known and almost 'must-haves', some may be home-made downright dangerous stuff (like home-bodged suspension pickup point alterations ) - check out www.vx220.org.uk - it's a great community.
Just for full disclosure - be aware that the vx220.org forum was started up by (and still run by) John Thorne, who runs Thorney Motorsports, the leading VX220 tuner and racer. So as a result there is a lot of pro-TMS stuff on the site. The other well-regarded tuner, Courtenays, are also worth trying.

*A* VX220 tuner rather than the leading one, I'd have said... Four years ago TJ could be found asking which brake pads people used, and all the other usual "new to the VX" type questions. Thorney Motorsport have only been going a couple of years.

Not always, I have 'helped' a few people sell their VX220's recently and got them back pretty much what they paid for them, the prices have bottomed out, but yes if you are looking at selling to a dealer or part exchanging it, they are not going to offer more than the 'book' price (the book is usually wrong with these type of cars).
