Keeping VX with Hard Top Outside
Discussion
How secure is the hard roof on a VX, is it as good as a coupe, or it still manage to leak a bit?
I understand that its a bit of a pain to remove, how long does it take to fit?
Reason I ask is that I'm thinking of keeping it outside rather than in the garage, so figure leaving it with the roof on will be safer.

mines left outside all year with just the soft top on, I do have to hard top that i fit very rarely. the hard top takes 5 torx bolts to fit (about 10mins)and is solid once on.
as far as the leaks... both may leak, both may not, depends how good the seals are and if the windows have been adjusted properly (both can be sorted at a later date

Cool - thanks for that, I've always been nervous about storing a soft-top outside, even though we've never had any car crime in this area, so the hard-top appeals. For a quick blast out I'd leave it on, for a longer trip I could take it off. It's been a while since I've seen a VX, can you remind me what form is takes and where its stowed.

Bit like a TVR then, my convertible didn't leak but my Coupe did - I'll feel right at home Tripps said:

It rolls up and fits on the shelf behind the seats or in the boot.
Thats nice and easy then, how does it fit onto the car then, IIRC its supposed to be easier than the Elise S1 mechanism.yeah it is easier, i understand it is the same as the S2 elise version if you have seen one of those.
essentially two locating pins, and two pins to move in and out to lock in place both sides all rolls up and unrolls and locks into position. very simple, can be removed from inside the car with no bother in traffic, hard top, nah dont need that, i park outside all year round, garage would be nice but then i wouldnt be able to open the doors.

As it happens I caught a VXT owner as he was removing his roof prior to leaving VW on Sunday and saw how it was done - a lot easier than I expected actually
Glad to know it can be removed from inside the car for sweltering days, depending on whether it gets the garage space or not mine would probably be without roof most of the year.
Well I'm picking mine up on Saturday and it will be left all year round outside in the car park with hardtop on.
I'm having the windows adjusted for the hardtop, will let you know the outcome after any big downpours!
TBH my old Griff 500 with its targa panel didn't leak, even in heavy rain, when stationary. The VX should be fine - most leaks are from the top of the A pillar when in motion, and the VX hardtop covers the most exposed areas from above.
